Desert Safari in Jaisalmer

Camel and jeep safaris on the Sam Sand Dunes, planned around the light and your group.

The dunes of Sam, two ways

The Sam Sand Dunes are the classic Thar landscape: long, soft ridges of sand that change colour through the day. A safari is the best way to reach them, and the experience depends a great deal on how you travel.

From our desert camp at Sam we arrange camel and jeep safaris on enquiry. We do not publish fixed packages or prices, because the best plan depends on season, group size and the time of sunset. Tell us what you would like and we will reply with options.

Slow & scenic

Camel Safari

The traditional way to cross the dunes. A camel walks at an easy, rocking pace, so you have time to take in the silence and photograph the ridges as the shadows lengthen. Most riders choose a late-afternoon ride that ends with sunset on the sand.

Short rides suit first-timers and children riding with an adult. Ask us about longer rides if you are comfortable in the saddle.

Fast & thrilling

Jeep Safari

A 4x4 covers far more ground than a camel and adds the excitement of climbing and dropping over dune faces. It is a good choice when time is short, for groups of friends, or for teenagers who want more energy than a camel ride offers.

Dune driving is bumpy. Tell the driver if you would like a gentler route.

Sunset safari

Timed for golden hour

The hour before sunset is when the dunes look their best: low light picks out every ripple and the sand turns from pale gold to deep orange. Either safari can be timed to arrive on the ridges for this moment.

Sunset times shift by more than an hour across the year, so we set the departure for your date. Sunset is also the busiest time on the dunes in peak season.

Safari packages are available by enquiry only. We will share current options and prices in writing.

A camel safari is slow and quiet, ideal for watching the light change over the dunes. A jeep safari is faster and covers more ground, with drives up and down the dune slopes.
